GRATITUDE - February 8, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR GETTING TO BE AN OFFICIAL SENIOR CITIZEN.

That sounds odd, even to me.

On a serious note, I have friends and associates that didn't get this far.  Car crashes, Vietnam, and Cancer took their toll.

On a more light-hearted note:

*  I get discounts on the menu in most restaurants.

*  I get discounts at the movie theater and theme parks - I am now the least expensive person in the group, including my teen daughter, as "13 years of age"  (in movie ticket pricing only) is deemed an adult.

*  Cruises offer a discount for the entire family if one traveler is a 'senior'.  Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

It is like being "carded" when I was under 21, but in reverse.  If I ask for the discount and they don't check, I am disappointed.  When they do - I take it as a compliment.  My wife (50 something) got carded a ways back when buying a bottle of wine...as their policy was to card (Driver's license ID check for those that don't know that term) anyone that appeared to be 'under thirty'.

If nothing else, that was outstanding customer service move.  Cost nothing, customer was very happy to show the ID and they made a customer for life.

* Note - we can't drink the wine...it is in a place of honor on our wine cabinet...kind of like a shrine.
