GRATITUDE - October 31, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE HALLOWEEN WITH LITTLE KIDS AGAIN.

The next generation Weltons
Zak as Luigi
I love the memories of Halloween when my four children were little.  They looked forward to that evening of pretend and magic probably as much as Christmas.

They couln't wait to get their costumes on and dredge the neighborhood for chocolate (except for the dentist that always gave out toothbrushes - ha).

That was a long time ago (pics included below).

Kyan with a short power nap
Zak & Kyan at the door
Tonight was special. Two of my three grandsons with their Mom and Dad came over to trick or treat our neighborhood.  Little Linkin Z'd out early and will have to wait until next year.
Surveying the 'loot' with
Auntie Sarah
'Look, Grandpa has
a lot more candy!'
Zak and Kyan were up for it and looked great in their little costumes.

Sweet little Kyan finally woke up halfway through the trek around the block and kept giving his candy away after each house.

Sarah, no longer "little", got to be the chaperone for Kyan.

Zak agreed that when he had to drag his pumpkin full of lollipops along the sidewalk because of the weight - it would be time to go.
Ian as the Devil he was
Nick as Ace Ventura
Cute kids.  Glad I was here to experience it.
Sarah the Princess
Dustin as Power Ranger
And me, as The Lone Ranger, 1954

GRATITUDE - October 30, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR THE ABILITY TO SEE IN COLOR VS. BLACK & WHITE.

Sounds odd, but how often do we really appreciate the seemingly simplest wonders of our world.

I would be hard pressed to find anyone that would say they are not moved by the colorful wonders such as these:

GRATITUDE - October 29, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR BEING A S.F. GIANTS FAN AND FOR THE GREAT WEATHER IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA.

S.F. Giants win the World Series.  Twice in three years.  Wow.  When your home team does this well, it is a great feeling.  It would be tough to be a Tiger's fan today.

I watch the news intently regarding the weather problems elsewhere in the country.  The MidWest has tornadoes.  The East coast has hurricanes.  Sacramento was 78 degrees and sunny today.

The news bounces back and forth from the thrill of victory for our baseball team and the tragedy infolding by the minute in New York, New Jersey, etc.

Worked outside today in a tee-shirt while others, not so lucky, were buffeted by gale force winds and flooding.

Thankful for our little slice of Paradise.

GRATITUDE - October 28, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR GOOD HEALTH AND A SORE BACK.

BEFORE
"If you have your health, you have everything".  Wow, so true.  I worked most of the day this afternoon on the rental house doing landscaping.  Pitchfork, rake, shovel, on knees planting, warm day...etc.  Not bad for 65.

AFTER
I can remember a few short years ago, after taking chemo and radiation for Tonsil Cancer, I could barely walk from the bed to the bathroom...and it was the old-man shuffle then.

Although it will most likely take two hands to hold the toothbrush to brush my teeth tonight, the aches mean I am alive and kicking.  Feels good.  Much to be thankful for.

GRATITUDE - October 27, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR MY LEGS AND FEET AND THE ABILITY TO WALK.

I have been working on our rental house for the past few days.  Lifting a lot of heavy objects.  My feet ache.  My legs are sore and my right knee is killing me.  I rub both legs and knees down with heat rub each evening. My stairs are a challenge.  Yet, I am grateful that I can walk and move about as I wish.

Didn't think about it at all today except for the negative thoughts of soreness....until, on the way home tonight, about a block from my house, I passed by a woman parked on the street, trying to get her wheelchair into the car.  It had tipped over and she couldn't lean out of the driver's seat far enough to get it upright.

I stopped and walked over to her car and offered my help.  Once we got it upright, she did everything herself with just one hand.  the wheels popped off and the seat part folded quite easily.  One piece at a time, she dismantled the wheelchair and pulled it with her left hand over the steering wheel to the passenger seat and stacked it.  Took less than a minute.  She was admirably independent, but had not counted on the wheelchair falling over.

As I drove away, the soreness in my knees and legs suddenly became a blessing.

GRATITUDE - October 26, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR ENJOYING THE BEAUTY OF DARK HUMOR.

We have all seen the motivational posters that stoke the inner fire and keep us going when it seems there is no hope.

A friend of mine from the Metro Chamber introduced me to the concept that "what if the posters were more truthful and told it like it usually is"?

The answer:  Demotivtional posters for every situation.

GRATITUDE - October 25, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR HAVING MY GRANDSONS BACK IN TOWN.

Idaho is a bit far, but for now, Ian, Jen and the boys are back in the Sacramento area.  Kids grow up so fast and I am grateful for the opportunity to share time with them.

I used to send "fun" packages to them in Idaho and the boys thought all the gifts were from the mailman...ha.  Had to include my photo in the box so they would know. This is much closer.

GRATITUDE - October 24, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THE SIMPLE GIFT OF GRATITUDE.

That said, I find it interesting that this week I have twice as many fans in Viet Nam than I do in Columbia.  It seems I am quite big in Russia, however - four times my fan base in the UK.  I am grateful for the acknowledgement and the opportunity to list a gratitude on a daily basis.  Thanks to the internet, people listen worldwide.

If you have something positive to say, share it.  One doesn't know who might be listening.  It might change their lives.

GRATITUDE - October 23, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR OPPORTUNITY TO SPEND A DAY WITH MY GRANDSONS AT A PUMPKIN PATCH.

Zak, Kyan and Linkin loved the pumpkin patch farm. So did I.

The scary corn maze not so much (Ian, Jen, the stroller and I had to bust out the side...lost), the tractors, hayride, the hay pyramid, much more.

Great handsome boys, not biased at all.

It was just before the rain, so it was a semi-cloudy day - great for pictures.

I still have pictures of their Dad when he was their age on his first trip to a pumpkin farm....some 20+ years ago...time flies.
