GRATITUDE -July 13, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR FRIENDS WITH BETTER GARDENS THAN MINE.

With all the stress and compacted tasks leading up to retirement and the big road trip (and 100 degree weather and no adequate watering system to the garden, other than me standing there with a hose) the past month or so...I did not get the garden planted in a timely manner.

But, my music teacher did.  Wonderful bounty...he could open a roadside vegetable stand.  This is my prize for being on time for my lesson last night.

GRATITUDE - July 12, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR A GREAT MUSIC TEACHER AND THE NEW-FOUND TIME TO DEDICATE TO PRACTICE MY BASS.

There was a time, not so long ago, when my desire was to learn how to play 10 classic rock-n-roll songs...now I am working on 50.  Recent additions from the 'Police' and 'Roy Orbison' songbooks and now dipping into 'Van Morrison' and "Them".

Just learned the bass line before I left on the road trip for "Gloria" and now, ironically, the "B" side to that single, "Baby, Please Don't Go".  If you have never seen a 45 rpm vinyl record...this won't mean much.

Flip back to 1965...a great time for good rock-n-roll, before it became 'classic'.

GRATITUDE - July 11, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR MY RECENT GOOD HEALTH ON OUR ROAD-TRIP.

It is almost humorous that with all my health 'opportunities', especially related to my persistent heart-rate issues, that the week after my trek in Bryce Canyon, Utah, I can barely walk or sit-up straight.  Temporary as it is...I pulled a muscle in my back, pulling (attempting) out a large weed (actually small tree with roots down to Australia) in my yard yesterday.

It is a cross between chuckling and wincing.  I am thankful this did not happen the week before our trip.  I could not have done the unbelievably beautiful Navajo Loop trail now, but have the pics to prove I did, when I was "healthy".  One can't take anything for granted, especially health...life can take a quick turn without much notice.  Ask me.

GRATITUDE - July 10, 2012

I AM GRATEFUL FOR YET ANOTHER WONDERFUL FAMILY WEDDING, A BEAUTIFUL NIECE AND A GOOD REASON FOR FAMILY TO GET TOGETHER.

My youngest niece, Aurora Chamberlin joined Ian Flannagan in marriage in a beautiful hilltop setting in Berkeley yesterday.

My sister & brother-n-law, other two nieces, my wife, daughter and two of my three sons made the occasion.  My oldest son and his family wasn't within reasonable driving distance (several states away).  It was almost a complete family reunion.

Plenty of adult beverages to go around, dancing, and even a tear or two.  In addition to the happiness for my niece, I especially am happy for my sister, as this was a milestone for her in the family evolution...now she is bracing for becoming a grandparent as Aurora's sisters are booking their incoming flights from Storkville.

As my sister and I replace our parents at the top of the original clan, we are thankful that our children are replenishing the growing family unit, adding little ones to carry on the genes.

GRATITUDE - July 9, 2012

I  AM GRATEFUL FOR MY KNEES HOLDING OUT FOR THE SPECTACULAR CLIMB IN BRYCE CANYON.

Queen's Garden and Navajo Look - were absolutely spectacular.  Highlight of the road trip.  Only slipped and fell once, but twisted my knee...3 days later I am icing to reduce swelling.
